Filmador de Sarayaku gana premio (12 de diciembre 2004)

El video ”Soy Defensor de la Selva”, realizado por Eriberto Gualinga de Sarayaku, ganó la categoría documental del Premio Anaconda 2004 al Vídeo Indígena Amazónico del Chaco y los Bosques Tropicales de America Latina y el Caribe.

”Soy Defensor De La Selva” relata como la comunidad de Sarayaku lucha contra la empresa petrolera argentina CGC cuando ésta compañia ingresa a realizar la prospeccion sismica sin el consentimiento de la comunidad. El video se desarrolla con el enfrentamiento de la comunidad de sarayaku para tratar de detener a las petroleras. El conflicto se agudiza mas, cuando intervienen los militares, llegando a luchar inclusive cuerpo a cuerpo, las mujeres son las protagonistas del video; hombres, mujeres y niños salen a resguardar los limites tradicionales, la vida en campamentos de paz y vida. La película contiene testimonios de nuestros mayores y musica tradicional como fondo. Es la historia de un pueblo pequeño que lucha por salvar su espacio de vida.

Es un gran orgullo para nosotros que un jóven nuestro ha recibido este reconocimiento. Sarayaku filmmaker wins award (December 12, 2004)

The video “Soy Defensor de la Selva” (I am a Defender of the Rainforest), realized by Eriberto Gualinga from Sarayaku, won the documentary category of the Anaconda Prize 2004 for Indigenous video of the Amazon, Chaco, and tropical forests of Latin America and the Caribbean.

“Soy Defensor de la Selva” relates how the Sarayaku community struggles against the oil company CGC when this company enters Sarayaku territory in order to carry out seismic prospecting, without the consent of the community. The video shows how the Sarayaku community confronts the oil company crews in order to stop them. The conflict intensifies when the military intervenes, reaching to confrontations body to body. The women are the main protagonists of the video. Men, women, and children go out to guard the traditional limits of the community. The film shows the life in our Camps for Peace and Life, and contains the testimonies of our elders, as well as traditional music as background. This is the story of a small community struggling to save its space of life.

We are very proud of that one of our youngsters has received this kind of recognition. Since some time ago, we are searching for human and financial resources in order to make “Soy Defensor de la Selva” accessible on our website.
