La compañia petrolera CGC ha sido comprada a 81% por la empresa argentina Southern Cross Group, por medio de su fondo de inversión, Southern Cross Latin American Private Equity Fund, registrado en las Islas Caymán. Los demás 19% siguen bajo control del grupo Soldati. Southern Cross es un inversionista muy activo en Sudamérica, especializado en la compra de empresas fuertemente endeudadas.
El presidente del Southern Cross Group es Sr Norberto Morita, de 55 años de edad, un ingeniero químico con un master en administración de empresas de la Universidad de Columbia, Nueva York. El Sr Morita es miembro de los consejos consultivos de varias instituciones académicas, entre ellas la Universidad de Columbia, y el INSEAD de Francia. También es asesor de la organización Patagonia Land Trust, la cual trabaja para proteger areas naturales del sur de Argentina, amenazadas por deforestación y por contaminación a causa de operaciones petroleras.
El Sr Morita posiblemente todavía no sabe de lo que ha ocurrido en Sarayacu y el bloque 23, tales como sobornos, amenazas, tortura y otras actividades delincuenciales por parte de la CGC y su personal. Nuestra esperanza es que el Sr Morita y Southern Cross, como nuevos dueños de la CGC, ponga un fin definitivo a todo esta pesadilla que Sarayacu ha tenido que sufrir durante años. Por eso, hemos enviado una carta personal al Sr Morita, rogandole que personalmente intervenga para que la CGC definitivamente se retire del territorio de Sarayacu.

The oil company CGC has been purchased to 81% by the Argentine company Southern Cross Group, through its Cayman Island registered investment fund Southern Cross Latin American Private Equity Fund. The other 19% still remains in control of the Soldati group. Southern Cross is a very active investor in South America, specialized in purchasing heavily indebted companies.
The chairman of Southern Cross Group is Mr Norberto Morita (age 55), a chemical engineer with an M.B.A. from Columbia University, Nueva York. Mr. Morita is a member of the advisory boards of several academic institutions, including Columbia University and french INSEAD. He is also an advisor of the organization Patagonia Land Trust, which works for protecting natural areas of southern Argentina, threatened by deforestation as well as pollution caused by petrol operations.
Mr Morita may not yet know what has been going on in Sarayacu and the block 23, such as the bribes, threats, torture, and other criminal activity performed by CGC and its staff. It is our hope that Mr Morita and Southern Cross, as new owners of CGC, will put a definitive stop to this nightmare Sarayacu has had to endure for several years. Therefore, we have sent a personal letter to Mr Morita, pleading him to personally intervene in order to make CGC withdraw for good from Sarayacu territory.
