CGC reanudará actividades en diciembre: Gobierno brindará "seguridad" (18 de septiembre 2003)

La CGC anunció a través de los medios de comunicación que reanudará los trabajos de sísmica dentro del territorio de Sarayacu en el mes de diciembre. Por su parte, el presidente de la república, Crnel. Lucio Gutiérrez, se pronunció diciendo "Garantizaremos toda la seguridad a las companias petroleras, ya hemos hablado con Sarayaku y estamos llegando a un acuerdo, solo cuatro dirigentes se oponen a esto y que el resto está de acuerdo".

Por su lado, Sarayaku manifestó que la comunidad "excluye a perpetuidad la posibilidad de que el estado impulse proyectos extractivos de recursos no renovables en sus territorios". Frente a las graves declaraciones del Presidente de la Republica, en las cuales presiona y amenaza a sus dirigentes, Sarayacu también ha emitido un Boletín de Prensa donde reafirma su resistencia contra la explotación petrolera. Marlon Santi, Presidente de Sarayacu, además ratificó que "el Gobierno Ecuatoriano, no ha mantenido ninguna conversación con nosotros desde febrero del 2003 y tampoco ha dado paso al cumplimiento de las Medidas Cautelares otorgadas por la Comisión Interamericana de Derechos Humanos y lo que mas bien ha iniciado es una campaña de amedrentamiento y presión".

Hacemos un llamado urgente a todas las organizaciones y opinión publica en general, para que se mantengan alertas y vigilantes frente a los anuncios amenazantes realizados tanto por el Presidente de la República Coronel Lucio Gutiérrez, así como por los funcionarios de la empresa CGC y las nefastas consecuencias que estas acciones ocasionarían en detrimento de los derechos humanos de los pueblos indígenas asentados en la amazonia ecuatoriana. CGC to reinitiate activities in December: Government will provide "security" (September 18, 2003)

CGC announced through a radio station that it will resume seismic works within Sarayacu territory in the month of December. On the other hand, the president of the republic, Mr. Lucio Gutiérrez, made a pronuncement saying "We will guarantee complete security for the petrol companies. We have already talked with Sarayacu and we are about to reach an agreement, only four leaders are in opposition of this, but the rest of them agree".

Sarayacu, on its part, declared that the community "excludes for perpetuity the possibility that the state promotes projects of extraction of non-renewable resources within their territories". Facing the grave declarations on part of the president of the republic, involving pressure and threats against their leaders, Sarayacu also transmitted a press release, reaffirming its resistance against the oil exploitation. Additionally, Marlon Santi, president of Sarayacu, ratified that "the Ecuadorian Government has not maintained any conversation with us since February 2003, neither has it implemented the cautionary measures ordered by the Inter-American Court of Human Rights. Instead, it has initiated a campaign of intimidation and pressure".
