El fin de la semana pasada, los habitantes de Sarayaku se reunieron para celebrar el Primer Congreso del Territorio Autónomo de la Nación Originaria del Pueblo Kichwa de Sarayaku.
Los dos primeros días los dirigentes salientes dieron informes y hubo trabajos en grupo sobre salud, educación, medio ambiente y territorio, economía y desarrollo local, y estatutos. El tercer día, hubo la plenaria y elecciones del nuevo Consejo de Gobierno de Sarayaku.
El pueblo de Sarayaku reafirmaró su decisión inquebrantable de seguir luchando hasta que las empresas petroleras del bloque 23 abandonen definitivamente sus territorios, y su voluntad de mantenerse vigilantes frente a cualquier intento de agresión por parte de empresas sean estos Petroleros, mineros madereros, etc. También, amparados en el marco legal de la Constitución política vigente, se constituyó en el Territorio Autónomo de la Nación Originaria del Pueblo Kichwa de Sarayaku.

During the past weekend, the inhabitants of Sarayaku gathered in order to celebrate the First Congress of the Autonomous Territory of the Original Kichwa Nation of Sarayaku.
The first two days, the outgoing leaders presented their reports, and there was work in groups about health, education, environment and territory, economy and local development, and statutes. The third day there was plenary and elections of the new Government Council of Sarayaku.
The Sarayaku people reaffirmed their unbreakable decision to continue struggling until the petrol companies of Block 23 definitively abandon the Sarayaku territory, and their intention to continue alert of any intent of aggression on part of any company, whether petrol, mining, timber or other. Also, in accordance with the legal framework of the valid constitution, the Autonomous Territory of the Original Kichwa Nation of Sarayaku was constituted.
