El intento de asesinato que ocurrió hace casi cuatro meses en Jatun Molino ahora ha resultado con ordenes de captura. Pero - que sorpresa - las ordenes de captura no son contra los agresores, sino contra las víctimas.
El 13 de enero dos canoas con gente de Sarayacu subían por el Río Bobonaza, pasando por el campamento petrolero en el sector de Jatun Molino, cuando de repente la primera canoa fue atacada con armas de fuego desde ambos lados del río por trabajadores de la compañia CGC. Parece que el blanco principal de la emboscada fue el motorista, Lenín Gualinga, oriundo de Jatun Molino mismo, quien escapó la muerte porque los agresores erraron los tiros. La gente tuvo que acostarse en el fondo de la canoa mientras los disparos pasaron por encima de sus cabezas. Mientras tanto, otros trabajadores petroleros, aparentemente en estado etílico, se acercaban en canoas, armados con machetes.
Mirando que sus compañeros estaban en peligro de muerte, una persona de la segunda canoa mandó un disparo con su escopeta de cacería desde larga distancia, y resultó que un par de perdigones agarraron en la cabeza y el brazo de uno de los agresores, Salvador Santi Ushiwa, cocinero de la CGC quien resultó superficialmente herido. Los trabajadores petroleros trataron de perseguir a los de Sarayacu en otra canoa pero, en su estado etílico, no pudieron mantener el equilibrio y la canoa se viró. Los militares presentes en el campo petrolero no intervinieron para parar este acto de violencia, y tampoco han hecho ningun pronunciamiento al respecto de los hechos. La CGC por su lado ha dado todo respaldo a sus trabajadores, mostrando su falta absoluta de respeto hacía la vida y el bienestar de los habitantes del bloque 23. Sarayacu denunció el hecho en los medios de comunicación y luego ante la Comisión Interamericana de Derechos Humanos.
Por otro lado, los mismos trabajadores de la CGC han presentado falsas declaraciones en la fiscalía, acusando a los de Sarayacu por intento de asesinato, y la fiscalía no se ha preocupado de realizar una investigación seria de los hechos. Por lo tanto quienes se encuentran con orden de captura son el mismo Lenín Gualinga, junto con Celso Aranda, Pedro Manya y Bernal Santi, los que todos son inocentes víctimas de la emboscada de los trabajadores de la CGC.
Rogamos a amigos solidarios en todo el mundo que nos ayuden a presionar a las petroleras y al Gobierno Ecuatoriano para que respeten el territorio de Sarayacu, para que los culpables de los crímenes contra nuestros derechos sean juzgados y penalizados y que se anule las ordenes de captura basadas en falsas acusaciones contra nuestra gente.

The attempted murder that ocurred almost four months ago in Jatun Molino has now resulted in warrants of arrest. But - surprise - the warrants of arrest are not for the aggressors, but for the victims.
On January 13, two canoes with people from Sarayacu were going up the Bobonaza River, passing the petrol camp in Jatun Molino, while suddenly the first canoe was attacked by workers of the CGC company who sent gunfire from both sides of the river. It seems like the principal target of the ambush was the outboard motor driver Lenín Gualinga, himself native of Jatun Molino, who escaped with life as the attackers missed him. The people had to lay down in the bottom of the canoe while gunfire passed above their heads. Meanwhile, other petrol workers, apparently intoxicated, approached in canoes, armed with machetes.
Seeing that the lives of his companions were in danger, one person in the second canoe fired his shotgun from long distance and a couple of shots hit the head and arm of one of the aggressors, Salvador Santi Ushiwa, the cook of CGC, resulting in superficial wounds. The petrol workers tried to pursue the people from Sarayacu in another canoe but, as they were intoxicated, they could not keep their balance and their canoe capsized. The military that were present in the petrol camp did not intervene in order to stop this act of violence, neither have they made any pronouncement whatsoever regarding the events. For their part, the CGC has given full support to their employees, showing CGC:s complete lack of respect for the lives and well-being of the local residents in block 23. Sarayacu denounced the incident in the media and to the Inter-American Comission on Human Rights.
On their part, the CGC employees involved in the incident have presented false declarations to the district attorney's office, accusing the people of Sarayacu for attempted murder, and the district attorney's office has not bothered to conduct a serious investigation of the incident. Therefore, the ones who are now under warrant of arrest are Lenín Gualinga himself, together with Celso Aranda, Pedro Manya and Bernal Santi, all of which are innocent victims of the ambush by the CGC employees.
We ask solidary friends all over the world to help us to keep up the pressure on the petrol companies and the Ecuadorian Government, so that they respect the Sarayacu territory, so that those who are guilty of the crimes against our rights get judged and punished, and so that the warrants of arrest, based on false accusations against our people, get annulated.
