ChevronTexaco todavía mantiene interéses en el Bloque 23 - Sarayacu denuncia radioemisora (24 de febrero 2003)

A pesar de las afirmaciones de representantes de la CGC y la ChevronTexaco de que la ChevronTexaco ya ha vendido sus intereses en el Bloque 23 a la Burlington Resources, hemos encontrado informaciones indicando que la ChevronTexaco unicamente ha alquilado sus intereses a Burlington. Esto significa que ChevronTexaco todavía espera tener ganancias del Bloque 23.

Por su parte, Sarayacu denuncia a la radioemisora Radio MIA, por lo que uno de sus periodistas también es Relacionador Público de la CGC, y porque desde hace tres meses cada mañana la Radio MIA emite un programa de una hora donde la petrolera CGC calumnia y amenaza a la gente de Sarayacu. Además, el día viernes la misma emisora emitió una nota de condolencia, diciendo que los dirigentes de Sarayacu, quienes habían viajado a Quito, todos habían muerto en un trágico accidente de tránsito en el camino. Esta noticia causó gran dolor en la comunidad, particularmente entre los familiares de las mencionadas personas. Al mismo tiempo, la línea telefónica de la oficina de Sarayacu en la ciudad de Puyo fue cortada, tal que no se pudo rápidamente comunicarse con Quito para verificar los hechos. Una vez que se pudo llamar por teléfono se comprobó que todo había sido mentira, una jugada fea para crear terror en el pueblo de Sarayacu.

Nuestros enemigos no vacilan en usar cualquier medio para lograr sus fines. Sin embargo, por mas sucias que sean las maniobras de las petroleras y sus lacayos, lo mas firme es nuestra resistencia. ChevronTexaco still maintains interests in the Block 23 - Sarayacu denounces radio station (February 24, 2003)

In spite of the statements by representatives of CGC and ChevronTexaco saying that ChevronTexaco has sold all its interests in the Block 23 to Burlington Resources, we have found information indicating that ChevronTexaco only has leased its interests to Burlington. This means that ChevronTexaco still hopes to make a profit from the Block 23.

On the other hand, Sarayacu has denounced the radio station Radio MIA, because one of its journalists is also Public Relations Officer of CGC, and because, since three months ago, Radio MIA broadcasts every morning a one hour program where the petrol company CGC calumnies and threatens the Sarayacu people. Moreover, on friday the same radio station broadcasted a condolence, saying that the Sarayacu leaders, who had travelled to Quito, all had died in a tragic traffic accident. This piece of news caused deep grief in the community, particularly among the relatives of the mentioned persons. At the same time, the telephone line of the office of the Sarayacu community in the town of Puyo was interrupted, such that the people there could not rapidly get in touch with Quito in order to verify the events. When they finally managed to get in touch by phone, they found that it had all been a lie, just an ugly game in order to create terror among the Sarayacu people.

Our enemies do not hesitate to use any means in order to reach their objectives. Nevertheless, the dirtier the tricks of the petrol companies and their flunkies, the firmer becomes our resistance.
