Ministro de Energía y Minas apoya a CGC (17 de febrero 2003)

En la mañana en las noticias de radio hubo una declaración del Ministro de Energia y Minas, quien aseguró que el gobierno respalda a la CGC. Además, dijo que 28 comunidades dentro del bloque 23 están de acuerdo con la actividad petrolera, mientras los únicos que hacen problema son dos personas de Sarayacu.

Es muy preocupante que un ministro se pronuncie de esta manera, tergiversando la realidad y menospreciando la lucha de toda una comunidad. A pesar de las promesas del actual gobierno de luchar contra la corrupción, ahora da su apoyo a elementos corruptos.

En la realidad, el llamado "Comité de Coordinación Bloque 23" que apoya la actividad petrolera consiste de una decena de empleados de la petrolera, de cuales algunos también son dirigentes indígenas, otros son pseudo-dirigentes nombrados por la misma petrolera. Pero sea lo que sea de las demás comunidades, el conflicto actual se trata exclusivamente del territorio de Sarayacu, y exigimos que se respete nuestra posición.

Por otra parte hay malestar en las comunidades donde ya se realizó la sísmica, por lo que la subcontratista Compagnie General de Geophysique se retiró sin pagar todo lo ofrecido. Increiblemente, la CGC aprovecha esta situación para incluso hechar la culpa de eso a Sarayacu. Cada mañana entre las cinco y las seis la CGC tiene un programa de radio donde calumnian y amenazan a la gente de Sarayacu.

Muy pronto la CGC puede reanudar la violencia en territorio de Sarayacu. Necesitaremos mas que nunca el apoyo de usted. Juntos vamos a vencer.

Minister of Energy and Mines supports CGC (February 17, 2003)

In the morning news in the radio, there was a declaration by the Minister of Energy and Mines, who assured that the government supports the CGC. Also, he said that 28 communities within the Block 23 support the petrol activities, while the only ones who make trouble are two persons from Sarayacu.

It is very worrying that a minister makes this type of pronouncements, distorting reality and undervaluing the struggle of a whole community. In spite of the promises of the present Government to struggle against the corruption, now it gives its support to corrupt indigenous leaders who receive their good salary from CGC for the support they give to the petrol company through their participation in the "Coordination Committee", while they at the same time claim to represent the grassroot people of their communities.

In reality, the so-called "Coordination Committee Block 23" that supports the petrol activities consists of some ten petrol company employees, of which a few also are indigenous leaders, others are pseudo-leaders named by the petrol company itself. But whatever the case with the other communities, the current conflict is exclusively about Sarayacu territory, and we demand respect for our position.

Meanwhile, there is discontent in the communities where the seismic works already have been carried out, because the subcontractor Compagnie General de Geophysique withdrew without paying everything it had offered. Unbelievably, CGC takes advantage of this situation in order to blame Sarayacu even for that. Every morning between five and six o'clock CGC has a radio program where they calumny and threaten the Sarayacu people.

Very soon CGC may resume the violence in Sarayacu territory. More than ever we will need your help. Together we will win.
