Compañia Burlington es socio de CGC en el Bloque 23 (10 de febrero 2003)

Recién la CGC nos informó que la ChevronTexaco ya en el 2001 vendió sus holdings en el Bloque 23 a la compañia Burlington Resources, de Houston, EE.UU. Es la tercera vez que las grandes compañias negocian nuestra tierra entre ellas, sin ni siquiera informarnos, mucho menos consultarnos. En total, esta clase de negocios tiene validéz nula, ya que los únicos legítimos dueños de Sarayacu somos nosotros que aquí hemos nacido y crecido. Conocemos y tenemos nombres para cada cerro, cada riachuelo y cada laguna en la tierra que nuestros antepasados nos dejaron como única herencia.

Agradecemos a todos ustedes quienes han mandado cartas de protesta a la ChevronTexaco, así indirectamente obligaron a CGC a revelar la verdad. Sin embargo, nos falta confirmar exactamente cuanto porcentaje de participación Burlington tiene en el Bloque 23 y no tenemos todavía pruebas definitivas de que la ChevronTexaco ha vendido la totalidad de sus holdings.

La Burlington también opera el Bloque 24, al sur del Bloque 23, donde los indígenas Achuar y Shuar categóricamente se oponen a la actividad petrolera. Ha llegado a nosotros un documento confidencial de Burlington sobre las estrategias de la compañia para romper esta resistencia. El documento claramente revela la estrategia basada en la compra de dirigentes comunitarios, funcionarios públicos y periodistas, igual como hemos visto en el Bloque 23.

Rogamos a usted que nos siga apoyando, ahora presionando con doble fuerza a la CGC y la Burlington para que definitivamente se retiren del Bloque 23.

Recently CGC informed us that ChevronTexaco already in 2001 sold its holdings in the Block 23 to the Houston-based company Burlington Resources. It is the third time that the large companies do bussiness about our land among themselves, without even bothering to inform us, much less consult us. In any case, the validity of this type of bussiness is null and void, because the only legitimate owners of Sarayacu are we ourselves who have been born and grown up here. We know and have names for each ridge, each creek and each lake in this land that our ancestors left us as their only inheritance.

We thank all of you who have sent letter of protest to ChevronTexaco, this way you indirectly obliged CGC to reveal the truth. However, we still need to confirm the exact percentage of the participation Burlington has in Block 23, and we still do not have definitive proof of that ChevronTexaco has sold all of its holdings.

Burlington also operates the Block 24, right south of Block 23, where the Achuar and Shuar people categorically oppose the petrol activities. We have acquired a confidential document of Burlington regarding its strategies for breaking this resistance. The document clearly reveals the strategy based on buying community leaders, public officials and reporters, just as we have seen happen in the Block 23.

We kindly ask you to continue your support, now putting twice as much pressure on CGC and Burlington in order to make them withdraw for good from Block 23.
