Sarayacu en diálogo con el Gobierno. Petrolera tilda "hijueputas" a Sarayacu (4 de Febrero 2003)

La semana pasado una comisión de Sarayacu y las máximas autoridades del Gobierno Nacional se reunieron dos veces en Quito. Se acordó que representantes del Gobierno vayan a Sarayacu para elaborar un informe de la situación y crear una agenda de trabajo. El día lunes 3 de febrero se realizó esta visita a Sarayacu, y el pueblo tuvo oportunidad a expresar directamente a los representantes del Gobierno su posición: Un rotundo NO a toda actividad petrolera dentro de nuestros territorios.

Las relaciones con los militares están en alguna medida normalizandose. El día viernes 31 de enero hubo una asamblea en Sarayacu con presencia de los militares. Ahí se firmó una acta de entrega y Sarayacu devolvió los cuatro fusiles que se había decomisado luego de que militares la semana anterior habían desmantelado los Campamentos de Paz y Vida de Sarayacu y capturado a cuatro personas quienes luego fueron ultrajados por el personal de CGC/ChevronTexaco. Los militares todavía permanecen en Jatun Molino y Shaimi, pero ya no obstaculizan el paso por el Río Bobonaza, y se han comprometido a devolver las escopetas de cacería que habían decomisado.

Por el momento, nuestros guardias ambientales no han detectado ninguna actividad petrolera dentro del territorio de Sarayacu, pero los trabajos sísmicos siguen en el resto del Bloque 23, y tememos que pueden tratar de trabajar clandestinamente también en territorio de Sarayacu, aprovechando que el territorio de Sarayacu es grande y difícil de vigilar.

El mismo día que los representantes del Gobierno estuvieron en Sarayacu, la petrolera mandó un mensaje de correo electrónico a Sarayacu con el único contenido "hijueputas". No nos sorprende esta actitud por parte de la petrolera. Primero trataron de engañarnos. Cuando no nos pudieron engañar trataron de hacer ver como que no existieramos, pasando por todos medios de comunicación que solo cinco personas resentidos no estaban de acuerdo con la actividad petrolera. Cuando mostramos con hechos que no ibamos a permitir la destrucción de nuestro territorio nos tildaron de terroristas. Nos ha tratado con engaños, calumnias y violencia, y esta clase de insultos era lo único que faltaba.

Agradecemos por el apoyo de todos ustedes. Su apoyo nos ha ayudado a parar la destrucción de la Amazonía siquiera por unos momentos. Pedimos que nos sigan dando su apoyo moral, político y económico, para que juntos logremos a salvar para siempre este pedazo de la Amazonía para las futuras generaciones de Sarayacu y el mundo.

Sarayacu in dialogue with the Government. Petrol Company calls Sarayacu "Sons-Of-Prostitutes" (February 4, 2003)

Last week a comission from Sarayacu met twice with the highest authorities of the National Government. It was agreed that representatives of the Government should visit Sarayacu in order to write a report about the situation and elaborate a work agenda. Accordingly, they visited Sarayacu on Monday february 3, and the people had the opportunity to express directly to the Government representatives their position: A flat refusal to any petrol activity within our territory.

The relations with the military are also returning to something that at least resembles normality. On Friday Janary 31, there was an assembly in Sarayacu with the presence of the military. An act was signed and Sarayacu returned the four guns they had confiscated from the militaries the week before, after the military had dismantled Sarayacu's Camps for Peace and Life and captured four persons that afterwards got physically abused by the staff of the petrol company. The military remain in Jatun Molino and Shaimi, but they have ceased to obstaculize the transport of people and goods on the Bobonaza River, and they have promised to return the hunting equipment that they had confiscated.

For the moment, our environmental guards have not detected any petrol activities within the Sarayacu territory, but the seismic works continue in the rest of Block 23, and we fear that they may try to work clandestinely also in territory of Sarayacu, taking advantage of that the Sarayacu territory is large and difficult to monitor.

The same day as the Government representatives were in Sarayacu, the petrol company sent an email message to Sarayacu with the only content "hijueputas" ("Sons-Of-Prostitutes"). This type of behaviour on part of the petrol company does not surprise us. First they tried to fool us. When they could not fool us they tried to make it appear as if we did not exist, telling all the mass media that only five annoyed persons did not agree with the petrol activities. When we showed with actions that we were not going to permit the destruction of our territory they branded us terrorists. They have treated us with frauds, calumnies and violence, and this kind of insults was the only thing that remained.

We plead you to continue your moral, political and finacial support, so that we together can save forever this piece of the Amazonía for the future generations of Sarayacu and the world.
