Militares decomisan herramientas de cacería (20 de Enero 2003)

Lunes en la mañana, militares obligaron a tiros a parar a veinte y tres personas de Sarayacu que estaban viajando por el Río Bobonaza, rumbo a Centro Sarayacu desde el Campamento de Paz y Vida en Panduro. Los militares procedieron a decomisar doce escopetas de cacería, 25 cartuchos de calibre 16, y dos cuchillos de cocina, bajo el pretexto que los dueños no poseían permiso para llevar armas. Como es de conocimiento de todos, los indígenas de la Amazonía dependen de la cacería para su alimentación, por lo tanto todos tienen escopeta y nadie jamás ha necesitado permiso alguno. Por lo tanto, este acto tiene como única finalidad de intimidar a la gente de Sarayacu y despojarles de sus posibilidades de conseguir su alimento diario.

Además, a la gente de Jatun Molino, de cuales muchos colaboran con la compañia, los militares no han decomisado ninguna escopeta, ni siquiera cuando uno de ellos la semana pasada, en presencia de los militares, disparó tres veces, con la finalidad de matar, a gente de Sarayacu que pasaba por el río en canoa.

Military confiscates hunting equipment (January 20, 2003)

On Monday morning, military obliged by gunfire twenty-three persons from Sarayacu stop while they were travelling on the Bobonaza River on the way to the Sarayacu Center from the Camp for Peace and Life in Panduro, to stop. The military proceeded to confiscate twelve shotguns used for hunting, 25 cartridges of calibre 16, and two kitchen knives, with the pretext that the owners lacked permit to carry arms. As everybody knows, the indigenous people of Amazonía depend on hunting for their nutrition, and therefore everybody has a shotgun and nobody ever needed any permit. Therefore, this act has the sole purpose of intimidating the Sarayacu people and deprive them of their possibilities to acquire their daily food.

Moreover, the militaries have not confiscated the shotguns of the people of Jatun Molino, many of whom collaborate with the petrol company, not even when one of them last week, in the presence of the military and in order to kill, shot three times at people from Sarayacu who passed by in canoe on the river.
